History, Development and Topics of the Gothic Scene
The Gothic scene has become an international phenomenon since its early beginnings in the late 1970ies. "Schillerndes Dunkel" (Shimmering Darkness) by cultural scientist Alexander Nym tries to give a broad insight into this sub- and countercultural movement by analyzing the development and topics as well as the contradictions within the scene. Nearly 800 pictures and illustrations present the lavish way in which the dress-up-keen scene stages itself.
More than 400 pages are filled with comments by artists, journalists, scientists, DJs and organizers, but also members of the Gothic crowd. Despite focussing on Germany and written in German, the book presents an international point of view.
Author Alexander Nym is a cultural scientist specializing in the history of the so called counterculture. He's been culturally active as an artist, theoretician and lyricist/vocalist of the electropop band Orgonautic.
Some of the contributors in this book are:
Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV)
Dr. Pete Webb (sociologist, U Birmingham)
Klive Humberstone (In The Nursery)
